Welcome to my blog!

I have never considered myself and avid blogger, but in this day and age there is so many things I wish to pass on to others, and it seems like conversations never go the way you might have planned them.

I am a wife, and mother of six children.  I homeschool, but I also work part-time as a registered cardiac and vascular ultrasound tech.  I have always been interested in helping others, and so the medical field was a great choice of a career.  Having six children, I have seen and dealt with many illnesses, from the common cold to serious problems, and so I have learned so much over the years that it is hard to pass that information around.

I had to learn the hard way, as most of us do.  When I had my first child I relied mainly on the advice of doctors whenever he got sick.  He just got sicker.  When he was very young he always had an ear infection.  He was always on antibiotics.  The doctors even gave him antibiotics to "prevent" ear infections, and all that did was make him allergic to any drug containing Sulfa.  When he was 5, he had another ear infection, but this time it was different.  We went to the doctor, got the usual script, and five days later the infection was back.  We went back to the doctor and got another script, and sure enough it just came back.  This happened at least four times, and then the doctor finally said to me, "I don't know what to do, we have ran out of antibiotics to give him."  "Well, he can try this new one the drug company gave me," and so we did and it worked.  But this was a wake up call for me.  What would happen when he got another ear infection, what would we do this time.  So I began my studying into the world of naturopathic medicine.

I learned that if I wanted Jonathan to stop getting ear infections, I had to let his body fight the bacteria.  If his body built up antibodies to the bacteria, he would never get them again.  When we give antibiotics, the body doesn't make antibodies, and it can never fight the infection, so they just keep returning.  The next time he had an ear infection I was ready.  I had vitamins, and some minerals and herbs.  He was sick for about 3 days, and guess what, the ear infection went away by itself.  He got one more after that, and never again did my son ever have another ear infection.  I was so excited.  I used the same treatment for myself, because I had just acquired allergies, and sinus infections were becoming the norm for me.  After letting my own body battle the bacteria, with the help of vitamins and minerals designed for the immune system, I am free of sinus infections.  The last one I had was 20 years ago.

I guess this is what my first blog is about, how to take care of simple things like the common cold, flu, and infections.  If you're an adult, and can take pills, I suggest you go and get an ultimate immunity formula.  Who wants to take 10 different vitamins, when you can get a capsule that has everything you need in it.  When your sick you need :

Vitamin C....5000 mg a day
Zinc....60 mg a day
Vitamin D  (which we don't get because everyone is wearing sunscreen these days, this vitamin is made by people going out in the sun...more on that later)....1000 mg a day
Vitamin A  10,000 IU a day
Echinacea, Garlic, Maitake mushrooms, Goldenseal, Oregano... and the list of helpful herbs goes on.

Many vitamin shops have these kinds of formulas, I use Natures Way, System Well Ultimate Immunity. But there are more to choose from.  Make sure you take enough to help yourself, for example, when you are sick you need more that than usual.  I take 3 of these capsules with each meal, and 3 before bed.  If you feel a cold coming on, take the vitamins immediately, sometimes you can beat it before it gets you.

What do you do if your child gets sick.  They usually can't take pills.  Well, we now have gummy vitamins for kids.... and they like them.  I usually give my kids 4 gummies a day, but when they are sick they get 8.  4 in the am and 4 before bed, and if you can get them to eat gummy vitamin C.... great.  They can have 500mg at least 4 times a day.  It really helps.  No more over the counter drugs, your kids will be better faster, usually no runny noses, and more healthy.

I hope this information is helpful, and I will continue to write about all of the diseases I have battled over the years.  This blog is timely, since I wrote about my son Jonathan.  This is the anniversary of his departure of this world, into his heavenly home.  I wrote about the beginning of his problems, which I believe was the start of his intestinal diseases, but that is a subject for a totally different blog.
If I can help just one person, than this blog has been more than worth the time it took to write.
Hope to write a bunch more, and live healthy!
